ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

There are many people that I have to thank: the late Justice Mir Iqbal Husain, the first person to look at the matter legally and pronounce my innocence, Ishtiaq and Jawad Rahman, my able, sincere lawyers, the late Mr. Hakim, who without a second thought put up his property as surety for my bail, the late Mr. K. C. Mammen, Jacob's cousin, for his ever-smiling attitude to life, constant words of encouragement and practical assistance, Mr. Abraham Verghese, the Inspector General of Police of Karnataka, for putting forward a bold statement to move the Bangalore Police and Government of Karnataka to corrective action, Mr. Chandulal, the Additional Commissioner of Police of Bangalore, for the time and the continuous words of encouragement he gave me at the crucial stage of my case, Erkki Reinikka, my brother, for his efforts in activating the Finnish Embassy in India, Hilja and Matti Reinikka, my parents, who remembered me in their prayers, some of the congregation of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Bangalore, India and Oulu, Finland and many others who prayed for me, the late Mariam and Kuriyan Matthan (II), my in-laws, for all the practical help they gave me, especially as grandparents to my children, my children and my husband who stood firmly by my side through all those difficult days, and the late Mr. K. M. Mammen Mappillai and Mr. K. M. Mathew, two maternal uncles of Jacob, for resolving many issues that permitted me to leave India with my family and settle in Finland without too many worries.

With respect to preparing the book for publication, I would like to thank my dear departed friends, the late Radha and Gnani Perinpanayagam, who painstakingly edited the text, sentence by sentence, to bring out my real innermost feelings and finally suggested the appropriate Biblical reference for the first page and my daughter, Joanna, who did the final reading of the book and added her valuable and critical comments.

I thank my husband, Jacob, not only for typing and editing the text as I wrote but also for safely keeping his diaries and all the important related documents to enable me to write this book, not out of sheer memory, but with all the supporting papers at my side, 9 years after the event. Without that, this book, as a factually correct work, would not have been possible. Above all I thank him for having learnt enough about the World Wide Web to have endeavoured to bring you this book in its most novel form.

And finally I must thank all those wonderful individuals all over the world who have painstakingly put up pages about areas that they know well which has permitted me to ensure that the interested reader, not only hears my story but also visits the beautiful places which I speak about. With this I hope and believe the Word of God Word will spread to every corner of the globe.
